Unsatisfied Job to a successful side hustle-

Bryn recounts that a couple of years ago she was waiting tables at an Arizonian restaurant and wasn’t happy with her job.

Neither was it monetarily satisfactory but it also lacked contentment.

Moreover, she was tied to one location and after enjoying a short holiday here-and-there  she’d again get stuck in the cycle of long working hours.

In her words-

“I think a lot of people feel stuck. I know that I felt like, as a person without a lot of money or a college degree, there was no way for me to have a job that allowed freedom and travel.”

Building the side hustle-

Desperate to change her situation, Bryn thought of an interesting side hustle which had been gaining traction in the online community-

“I never thought I could do it (without a college degree). But all I really needed was a solid internet connection and the curiosity to learn about a new business, and my life totally changed.”

That’s when she came with an idea of selling used books on Amazon and although wasn’t sure of it, decided to give it a shot.

Setting up her shop-

Bryn created her seller’s account on Amazon and immediately got to work.

Initially, she spent about a year traveling around the United States buying used books at cheap rates to build her inventory.

Once she had enough pieces, she relayed her inventory to an Amazon warehouse, which fulfills the orders she receives.

She continues using this strategy, through which she can make money while traveling–

“The game plan has been to work hard for a few months stocking my inventory, then travel while I make money from it,” she said.

On an average Bryn makes around $140,000 a month in revenue and her profits scale over $90,000.

When one is not enough!

Looking at her initial success, Bryn  built a second bookstore front and also dabbles into other streams of income- one of which is Drop shipping.

‘Drop-shipping is a popular business model wherein a business doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock.

When a drop shipping retailer sells a product, it purchases the item directly from a third party (a manufacturer, wholesaler, or another retailer) that ships the product directly to a customer.’

Work from anywhere is the new normal-

Although as Bryn recalls, “it’s not all lounging and relaxing“, she enjoys the freedom this hustle brings her and that she’s able to set her own goals for what she wants her life to look like.

However, traveling while working does have a few snags including irregular internet connection, an unpredictable working schedule and a lot of location shifts.

But with experience Bryn has it figured out-

“If I’m in a place where the power or WiFi is out, I’ll just wait until the next day to work or use my portable hotspot, which totally saved my life in the jungles of Colombia. I can also work on a lot from my phone, and when I look for places to stay, I make sure there’s reliable WiFi if possible.“
